A large wildfire has erupted in the region of Bulgaria's Elhovo, near the country's border with Turkey.

The fire has affected an area of approximately 600 acres, according to local media. It erupted near the village of Valcha Polyana and is believed to have been caused by a human error.

The affected area is said to include coniferous and deciduous forests.

Bulgarian firefighting units have already succeeded in restricting the fire. Two military helicopters joined the operation at 6:15 am on Monday, the Focus news agency informs.

Turkish authorities have been informed about the wildfire. According to the Bulgarian National Television, it is not likely to spread to the neighboring country.

Meanwhile, the fire that erupted Sunday evening along southern Bulgarian Trakiya Highway near the town of Ihtiman (some 30 km away from capital Sofia), has been reported to be under control.
