A total of 11 temperature records were registered in Bulgaria on Thursday, June 21, 2012, the first day of the new summer, Bulgaria's National Meteorology and Hydrology Institute reported.

In the Danube town of Lom, the mercury climbed to 35.7 degrees Celsius, beating the previous record on the same day in 1993 when the temperature was 35 degrees.

The southwestern town of Sandanski also experienced a temperature of 35.7 degrees.

Another Danube town, Svishtov, saw a temperature of 34.3 degrees, also beating the record from 1993.

Lovech in Northern Bulgaria had 34.6 degrees Celsius, and Silistra on the Danube – 33.7.

The southern Bulgarian town of Karnobat, which is near the Black Sea coast, experienced a record heat of 33 degrees; the same goes for the central Bulgarian town of Kazanlak with 32 degrees.

The city of Razgrad in Northeastern Bulgaria, the Black Sea Cape of Kaliakra and the Cape of Emine as well as Mount Murgash in the Balkan (Stara Planina) Mountain and Mount Rozhen in the Rhodope Mountains also had record temperatures.

The Bulgarian authorities have declared Code "Yellow" for all of Bulgaria for June 22 because of the heat.
