The wall of the Studena dam near the Bulgarian city of Pernik has not been affected by the 5.8 -6 magnitude earthquake that shook the city in May, experts have confirmed.

A team from the Sofia based University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy has inspected the dam using lasers, detecting no faults whatsoever.

The Studena dam was constructed over 50 years ago and has to be rehabilitated with World Bank money. The rehabilitation is expected to start in 2013.

The earthquake had a magnitude of about 5.8 on the Richter scale and struck at 2:58 am on May. Its epicenter was about 6 km from the city of Pernik and approximately 25 km from Sofia. The quake struck at a depth of approximately 9.4 kilometers.
