Nearly 22% of Bulgarians Below the Poverty Line
In 2024, the poverty line in Bulgaria was set at 763.83 leva per month per person in a household
Bulgarian President, Rosen Plevneliev, is leaving Tuesday for Brazil to take part in the conference of the UN on sustainable development Rio+20.
The forum will last three days – from June 20 to June 22, and will be held at the at Riocentro Convention Center in Rio de Janeiro.
The news was reported by the Presidential press office.
The summit includes 5 plenary sessions dedicated to issues of green economy, rooting out poverty and establishing an institutional frame for sustainable development.
Plevneliev is to address the participants on June 21st.
In official negotiations, statements and round tables, and at over a thousand special events, government, business and NGO leaders are expected to set the sustainability agenda for the next 20 years, towards identifying solutions and goals to tackle urgent global challenges, such as lack of access to energy and clean water, depleted oceans, food insecurity, widening inequalities and rapidly expanding cities. They will also decide ways to boost corporate sustainability, create green jobs, advance the role of science and innovation, close technological gaps, generate needed financing and improve mechanisms for international cooperation, the organizers inform in a special statement to the media.
More than 100 presidents and prime ministers, as well as UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Conference Secretary-General Sha Zukang, will be joined by thousands of business CEOs, parliamentarians, mayors, NGO leaders, academics, senior UN officials and representatives from many other groups at Rio+20. Over 50 000 people are expected to participate in the Conference and related events in Rio de Janeiro during that period.
