The number of football teams competing in Bulgaria's top-flight should be reduced from 16 to 10, according to the country's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.
Borisov, a passionate sports fan and amateur football player, has told TV7 that the downsizing would increase the league's quality and bring about more interesting games. He pointed out that he spoke as "a fan and active footballer."
The Prime Minister and Vitosha Bistritsa forward has praised Bulgarian national team coach Lyuboslav Penev, who he believes is "much better than Matthaeus and all the others." He referred to the team's previous coach, former German midfielder Lothar Matthaeus.
According to Borisov, Spain are favorites to win the upcoming Euro 2012 championship. However, he believes that Germany and Portugal also stand a chance.
Borisov's lower-tier Vitosha Bistritsa recently won the Cup of the Bulgarian Amateur Football League.
