Construction inspections have shown the condition of buildings in the Southwestern Bulgarian city of Pernik is worse than what was initially expected, according to the city's Mayor, Rositsa Yanakieva.

Yanakieva has told the Bulgarian National Radio that a total of 22 schools and 16 kindergartens in Pernik will be open on Monday.

She has clarified that the children from the three kindergartens that remain closed will be relocated to other kindergartens.

Serious damage has been observed in a total of 90 municipal buildings, she added.

Pernik's citizens have filed over 1 800 requests for earthquake damage assistance.
