Three new aftershocks have been registered after 9 pm Tuesday in Bulgaria's western city of Pernik.

The news was reported by the largest private TV channel bTV.

The tremors had a magnitude of about 2.0 on the Richter scale and were registered at 10:55 pm, 11:55 pm and 5 am Wednesday morning.

Seismologist Prof. Nikola Milushev, Director of the Geophysics Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS, speaking for bTV informed that the strongest and fist shock that struck at 2:58 am Tuesday, May 22, was measured by his Bulgarian colleagues at 5.8 on the Richter scale and this was the most viable one, compared to the 5.6 of European experts, and 6.2 of the ones in neighboring Serbia and Romania.

The epicenter of the strongest earthquake to hit Bulgaria in the last 100 years is located about 6 km from Pernik and is at a shallow depth, making the shocks felt even stronger.

Despite the strong shock, there are no reported casualties, no serious injuries and no significant national infrastructure damage.
