Bulgaria: The Mystery of Bulgaria's Mobster Pair

May 3 saw the much awaited sentences of Angel Hristov and Plamen Galev, Bulgarian gangsters more commonly known as the "Galevi" brothers.

Bulgaria's Supreme Court of Cessation decreased Galev's sentence for leading an armed criminal group from 7 to 5 years – since, even though weapons were discovered, the court found no proof they were used (!?)

Anyhow, everyone was delighted that Bulgarian mobsters will spend several years in prison for a change.

And then, just as authorities were about to kindly ask them to show up for prison, the guys disappeared.

Galev and Hristov have been neither seen nor heard since Tuesday. Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov begged them to surrender, but to no avail.

What will happen next? Will the two mobsters suddenly appear and say they had no idea someone was searching for them? Will they show up after five years? And will Bulgaria receive a positive Co-operation and Verification Mechanism report this summer?

A positive answer to the last question seems the most unlikely.
