Bulgarian national coalition "Bulgaria for People and Regions" plans to stage a protest performance in support of amendments to the country's Forestry Act intended to liberalize development in protected areas.
The amendments, says the coalition, are vital for Bulgaria's tourism, and are been not yet adopted because of pressure from environmentalists.
To show their protest against what they see as the wrongful pressure of eco-activists, "Bulgaria for People and Regions" plan to distribute Wednesday 240 empty green plates to Bulgaria's 240 MPs.
In a similar manner, environmentalists distributed early april 240 paper axes to MPs, urging them to make a choice between axing forests and axing corruption.
The scandalous amendments to Bulgaria's Law on Forests were rushed on to Parliament in the very last days of 2011, after company Vitosha Ski did not open winter season on Vitosha Mountain near Sofia, saying the government obstructs development with too much regulation.
The amendments, which environmentalists say will radically liberalize all construction and cutting down of vegetation even in protected areas, have already been passed at first reading and in the commissions, and stand to only second reading in Parliament to be enacted.
The "Bulgaria for People and Regions" coalition argues on the other hand that current regulation in Bulgaria is exceedingly cumbersome and that because of this, all development has stopped since its enactment in April 2011.
