Bulgaria's Sofia municipality has controversially decided to pour a total of BGN 500 000 into the renovation of lower-tier Vitosha Bistritsa's football stadium.
One of the amateur team's players is Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, who affectionately calls his team "The Tigers of Bistritsa."
The money for the stadium's reconstruction will be allocated from Sofia's Specialized Municipal Privatization Fund, Capital daily has informed.
Robert Yanakiev, a municipal council member from Borisov's ruling centrist-right GERB, has argued that the decision is not the result of a "special attitude."
GERB municipal council members have also claimed that the reconstruction is necessary, since the stadium is threatened by a landslide.
However, Slavcho Galev, member of the amateur team's board of directors, told the Btv private channel on Tuesday that he is unaware of the existence of a landslide near the stadium.
Boyko Borisov played in several Vitosha Bistritsa games last season.
