Russia has deployed an advanced S-400 Triumf missile defense system in its westernmost exclave Kaliningrad Oblast, report agencies.

The move is believed to be in response of Russian worries regarding the placing of a NATO missile defense shield in Eastern Europe.

Russia has previously been warning that it is ready to deploy Iskander missiles (NATO reporting name SS-26 Stone, range of 400 km) in Kaliningrad.

The missile complex S-400 Triumf (NATO reporting name SA-21 Growler) is designed to strike at intruders into airspace, different strategic and tactical aircraft, ballistic missiles and at other contemporary methods of assault from the air.

It features three types of missiles of different operational range: the 40N6 (400 km), 48N6 (250 km), and 9M96 (120 km).

The S-400 is an update of the earlier S-300 system, and is produced by Russian weapons giant Almaz-Antey.
