Snow arrived in Bulgaria's capital Sofia on April 1, the day the western world marks April Fools.

The cold temperatures turned the rain into snow in the city, where the mercury is expected to fall down even more Sunday afternoon to the unusual for this time of the year 2 degrees Celsius.

According to the weather forecast, it will be cloudy and rainy all over Bulgaria with increasingly strong northwestern wind that will bring even cooler temperatures and more snow. Precipitations are expected to subside by Sunday evening.

Code yellow has been declared for 17 Bulgarian regions over the forecast for inclement weather. The forecast has been issued by the Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, BAS.

Code yellow means potentially dangerous weather, where the forecast is not for unusual meteorological events, but requires people to exercise caution.

It is effective for the regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Lovech, Gabrovo, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Targovishte, Razgrad, Silistra, Shumen, Dobrich, Varna, Burgas, Sliven, and Yambol.
