Bulgaria is looking for potential investors in its gas turbine power plant that is to be constructed in the Danube town of Belene, the country's Deputy Economy and Energy Minister Valentin Nikolov has revealed.
On Wednesday, Bulgaria officially abandoned the Belene Nuclear Power Plant which Sofia and Moscow had agreed on in 2008. Deputy Finance Minister Vladimir Goranov announced that a gas turbine power plant will be built in Belene instead.
The reactor originally intended for Belene will be placed in Kozloduy, Bulgaria's sole existing NPP.
No investors have shown their interest in the gas turbine power plant project yet, Valentin Nikolov said, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio.
"This is a very good idea. Bulgaria needs a gas turbine power plant, too, the question is whether we can find an investor. We would welcome every investment...We welcome every idea that should be fulfilled in the energy sector. You know that we have renewable energy sources in Northeastern Bulgaria that cannot be balanced now – a gas power plant should be able to balance them," the Deputy Minister explained.
