Bulgaria Engages in Discussion on Antarctica's Fate in Warsaw

In its capacity of a full Antarctic Treaty member Bulgaria participates in twenty-fifth Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting that will take place till September 20 in Warsaw. Delegations from the United States, Japan, Germany, France, Great Britain, Russia, Argentine are among the participants in the meeting. The consultative meetings are annual diplomatic conferences, at which decisions on crucial issues related to the Antarctic region, are taken. Among the issues on the agenda of this year's Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting is the establishment of a Permanent Secretary under the Antarctic Treaty based in Buenos Aires. Environment-related problems in Antarctica and ways of preserving the unique ecosystems there will also be discussed at the meeting. Bulgaria has received international acclaim for its scientific researches in the Antarctic region.
