King Albert of Belgium and President Parvanov will inaugurate October 2 the Europalia Festival that in 2002 is specially dedicated to Bulgaria. Created in 1969 in Brussels, the Europalia festival was established to highlight the culture of a chosen country, member states of the European Community first and subsequently more distant countries. An exhibition of ancient gold excavated in Bulgaria will be the hot event at this year's Europalia. A concert that will display a unique mixture of jazz and Bulgarian folk rhythms is also a must for Bulgaria's friends. The festival will also feature two documentaries produced by Bulgarian National Television that tell of the ancient Thracian civilization which thrived on what is now Bulgaria's territory. Eropalia 2002 will features many other high-profile events that place the Balkan country on top of Europe's cultural agenda October 2 through 4.
