The Bulgarian community in Chicago, IL, has started the celebrations for March 3, Bulgaria's National Liberation Day marked the 134th year since its liberation from the Ottoman Empire.
The events dedicated to Bulgaria's National Liberation anniversary in Chicago started as early as March 2, 2012, with the opening of an exhibit at the Ukrainian National Museum (2249 West Superior Street Chicago, IL 60612), with works of Bulgarian artists, reported EuroChicago, a Bulgarian immigrant community's news site.
On March 3, Saturday, the Bulgarian National Liberation celebrations continue with the raising of the Bulgarian flag before the Chicago city hall on Daley Plaza, where the Bulgarian flag will stand next to the flags of the USA and the State of Illinois. Chicago has the largest Bulgarian immigrant community of all cities globally.
Special buses have been provided for the students of the Bulgarian weekend schools in the city, EuroChicago reported.
During the celebrations, EuroChicago is to announce the ten events nominated as the "Bulgarian Events of the Year in the USA" for 2011, and will launch an online voting campaign to determine the top event.
Later Saturday night, the Bulgarian National Liberation day will be celebrated with a concert organized by the Bulgaria newspaper at Avalon Banquets, (1905 Е. Higgins Rd., Elk Grove Village, Il 60007, /Higgins § Oakton/).
