Bulgaria's national football team may have participated in a fixed friendly game against South Africa ahead of the 2010 World Cup that took place in the African country.

The Sunday Times of South Africa has claimed that Bafana Bafana's matches against  Bulgaria, Thailand, Guatemala and Colombia may have been fixed by Singaporean Wilson Raj Perumal, who is serving a two-year jail term in Finland for fixing matches there.

The Bulgarian game in question was played on May 24 2010 in Johannesburg and ended in a 1:1 draw.

After media reports cast doubt over the validity of some of the South Africa's results ahead of the 2010 World Cup, a FIFA team will travel to the country to look at the claims, the South African Football Association (SAFA) said on Tuesday.

At the beginning of March 2011 FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against match officials in relation to the international friendly matches Estonia v Bulgaria and Bolivia v Latvia played in Antalya (Turkey) on 9 February 2011.

The Bulgarian football body has repeatedly protested its innocence, saying they knew nothing of the betting scam that involved its game against Estonia.
