Bulgaria Sees Surge in Foreign Work Permits: 24,000 Issued in First Five Months of 2025
Since the start of 2024, Bulgaria has issued 24,000 work permits to foreign nationals, marking a significant increase compared to previous years
Bulgarian forward Valeri Bojinov has shown signs of repentance after his expulsion from Sporting's first team and amid reports of a looming transfer back to his home country, according to Portuguese and Bulgarian media.
Bojinov has reporedly expressed his strong desire to publicly apologize for what he did on Thrusday, when Sporting ended in a 1-1 home Cup draw with lower-tier side Moreirense.
In the injury-time, Bojinov decisively pushed his team's habitual penalty-taker Matias Fernandez, only to see his vital spotkick saved.
"Taking into account what happened at the end of the match, Sporting's management has decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Bojinov and kick him out of the club's first team.
There are also rumours that two Bulgarian clubs – Levski and Litex - may vie to attract the forward if he decides that he can no longer stay in Lisbon, given the situation.
Despite the great expectations at the start of his stint in Lisbon, Valeri Bojinov was recently voted among the biggest transfer disappointments in Portugal for 2011.
Benfica left-back Joan Capdevila, Rodrigo Mora (Benfica), Argentina International Juan Manuel Iturbe, Belgian International and FC Porto midfielder Steven Defour and Luis Aguilar (Sporting) also made it to the unflattering ranking, compiled by the readers of the Portuguese sports newspaper "Record".
Portuguese giants Sporting completed in July the signing of Parma's unsettled Bulgarian striker Valeri Bojinov.
The Bulgarian international signed a five-year contract with Sporting after the two clubs agreed on a EUR 2.6 M bid for 80% of the player's economic rights. The fee could rise to EUR 3.5 M depending upon the club's performances.
The 25-year-old, who has also played for Fiorentina, Juventus and Manchester City, wears the number seven shirt for the Lisbon side.
Bojinov hit recently the front pages of Bulgarian tabloids after deciding to marry in between two matches of the national team, at a time when it was in desperate need of at least one face-saving victory, raising many eye brows.
The players from the team were banned from attending the wedding, even though they were accommodated at the very same hotel that the newly weds picked for the happy occasion.
Lozanova has gained the reputation of a promiscuous and dominant lady, who has been calling the shots after Bojinov was transferred to Sporting Lisbon.
The couple is expecting their first child.
