The Council of Ministers issued an official statement in which it rejects the accusations published by the Greek daily Ethnos, according to which Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg is supporting and financing a newly-founded organization that demands the recognition and protection of the rights of the Bulgarian minority in northern Greece and the Republic of Macedonia and changes to the Bulgarian-Greek border. According to the Ethnos article, the organization called Bulgarian Human Rights in Macedonia has the ambition to develop into a political party. Further on, the article claims that the organization`s activity is carried out with the agreement and sponsorship of - quote - His Majesty Simeon II, King of Bulgaria. The Council of Minister`s statement describes the claims published in Ethnos as absurd. Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg is not aware of the existence of such an organization, and we think that this is an attempt to abuse his name and authority. The Council of Minister`s statement points out that Bulgarian-Greek good neighbourly relations cannot be influenced by such articles and that Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg has repeatedly stressed that he is supporting the further development of Bulgarian-Greek relations and that he will work for Balkan stability.
