More than 200 Syrians gathered Sunday in front of the Syria embassy in Bulgarian capital Sofia to express their outrage at the ongoing violence in their home country.

The Syrian citizens and Bulgarians of Syrian descent were carrying sings, most notable among which is "Syria Is Bleeding."

They also erected a replica of the clocktower in the Syrian city of Homs, center of the pro-democracy movement in their homeland.

Assembled in front of the mission in a southern district of Sofia, they demanded the resignation of what they saw as the dictator regime of President Bashar Al-Assad.

Protesters said they will assemble again Monday to renew their calls, reports the Bulgarian National Radio.

According to UN estimates, some 4,000 persons have perished in Syria since pro-democracy popular protests broke out in March 2011.

Thousands more have been displaced to Syria and Bulgaria's mutual neighbor, Turkey.
