Zwickau's Neo-Nazi Murderers Were Trained in Bulgaria - Report

The neo-Nazis from the German town of Zwickau who killed ten immigrants and committed various other crimes had visited Bulgaria shortly before their first murder and reportedly used the Balkan country for "training".
In the period between 1998 and 2000, the notorious neo-Nazi trio traveled abroad on a couple of occasions, visiting Budapest and subsequently Bulgaria, according to Frankfurter Allgemeinen Sonntagszeitung.
Uwe Bohnhardt and Uwe Mundlos, who both committed suicide, as well as their accomplice Beate Z., allegedly entered Bulgaria using false IDs and went through some sort of a military training, German media have suggested.
Contacts with Hungary, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria were once important for German neo-Nazis, as the authorities in these countries were not particularly involved in combating far-right extremists, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung explains, as cited by the Bulgarian BGNES.
The neo-Nazi killings, which became known in Germany as the "doner kebab murders" because two took place in kebab restaurants, were committed in a number of German cities between 2000 and 2007.
Chancellor Angela Merkel recently described the affair as "a disgrace for Germany" and pledged to do everything possible to discover why police had failed to discover the gang sooner than in 2011.
