The Bulgarian Football Union will appeal the EUR 40,000 fine imposed on it by UEFA Friday, announced the Union Saturday.

Friday Bulgarian media reported that the UEFA fine has been motivated by racist shoutings by Bulgarian fans during the September 2 Euro 2012 qualifier between Bulgaria and England.

"Contrary to those reports claiming that the fine is due to racism during the England game, UEFA has still not revealed the grounds for their decision," reads the statement of the Bulgarian Football Union.

The Union expects to be informed about the grounds for the fine in the coming week. After hearing those, it will proceed to appeal the UEFA decision.
