PRESIDENT ALSO SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE, SOFIA MAYOR SAYS

The President should share the responsibility of the government, Sofia mayor Stefan Sofianski said upon his return from Berlin. His comment was prompted by the sharply critical speech President Parvanov made on Friday. In it he underlined that people's trust in institutions is "melting" and aimed his criticism at the incumbents' reaction to the criminal incidents some weeks ago. The President's position is related to his own share of responsibility, Sofianski said. He specified he has not read the President's address yet. An accent was placed on the fact that in forming the government the President was the leader of a party with two representatives in it. Sofia mayor recalled the social pledges the President made in the presidential election campaign. In Berlin Sofianski took part in a conference of the mayors of EU aspirants' capitals. The European mayors called for direct, local level involvement in the EU funds distribution in an official address to the European institutions.
