FINANCIALS TO COOPERATE WITH US SERVICES

The Bulgarian Bureau of Financial Investigation and the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network with the US Treasury Department agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding and information exchange. The agreement was reached during the two-week working visit of BFI Director Nikolai Ivanov to the US. Bulgarian financial investigators had discussions with the US tax authorities, criminal investigators, officers of the US Customs Service, the Federal Reserve, the Department of Justice, Interpol, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, financial officials and secret service officers. The sides mapped out steps to promote cooperation in the prevention and clearing of financial crimes committed through electronic banking. US secret services will provide materials to train and assist bankers in detecting counterfeit US dollar banknotes.
