The story of a pack of stray newborn puppies has toured Facebook, dawing responses from scores of potential adopters.

The dogs were born on September 23, the day when the nationwide presidential election campaign started, in the garden behind the Parliament building in Sofia.

The six puppies instantly won the sympathies of some MPs, who started feeding them with the notoriously underpriced yet very delicious meat balls sold at the Parliament's canteen.

According to reports of passers-by, the mother dog had managed to sneak into the Parliament building in a desperate attempt to find food.

Leaving the security guards no time to act, she made a brief tour of the building but got scared by people's reaction and quickly darted out.

The stray puppies also caught the attention of the guards at the security booth next to the Parliament building.

The men crafted a makesift home for the puppies out of a cardboard box.

Upon hearing the story, Parliament Chair Tsetska Tsacheva vowed to try help, although she said she could not go and see them because her movement was restricted in order to facilitate the work of guards from the National Security Service.
