Russia has confirmed one of its helicopters that went down in Chechnya 11 days ago killing 118 people, was shot down by a missile. Russian defence minister Sergei Ivanov told reporters Friday a surface-to-air missile fired from a portable launcher had blasted the helicopter's right engine. A fire broke out and the entire hydraulic control system failed, he said, adding: "The back door would not open and burning fuel flooded inside the helicopter."

Most of those who died suffocated or were scorched to death because they could not get out of the back exit.
