The United States has proposed a new method for the demolition of the engines of the SS-23 missiles. That emerged after a meeting of Defense Minister Nikolay Svinarov with experts from the bureau of arms control with the U.S. State Department. U.S. Ambassador to Bulgaria James Pardew also attended the meeting. Svinarov said that the newly proposed method was a combination of methods used in other countries that had destroyed their SS-23 missiles. He clarified that the new method was safe. In his words, the new method will guarantee demolition of the missiles till the October 30 deadline and safety. However, he did not specify what exactly was the new method but said that it was neither controlled explosion or controlled burning. The new method will be discussed at a meeting of the intergovernmental group, in charge of the matter. The defense minister also said that the experts were ready to start with the demolition of the missiles' components at the Zmeevo firing ground after September 10.
