Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry experts are making detailed analysis on the issues related to the US request on the new international war crimes court. The United States want Bulgaria to sign an agreement not to hand over American military personnel to the court. The United States refused to cooperate with the court and seeks immunity under Article 98 of the International Criminal Court. Bulgaria is currently conducting consultations with the European Commission and Denmark in particular as present EU president to form its decision, Katya Todorova from the Foreign Ministry said. She underlined that Bulgaria is in constant dialogue with the United States on the issue too. The European Commission called on the EU aspirants not to follow the example of Romania that signed the agreement with the United States. The common position of the European Commission will be announced in September. Todorova did not specify a deadline for Bulgaria's decision on the International Criminal Court. She said that Bulgaria is now waiting for the EC stand and after detailed analysis and consultations, it will make known its stand. Bulgaria is not under pressure from the US to give American peacekeepers immunity, Todorova pointed out. She said that Bulgaria's decision would comply with the country's foreign policy priorities.
