Bulgarian fans have not directed racist chants at English players during the Euro 2012 qualifier in Sofia last month, Bulgarian Football Union President Borislav Mihaylov has claimed.

Earlier this week, it was made clear that UEFA have launched disciplinary proceedings against the Bulgarian Football Union as part of their investigation into racist abuse during the recent Bulgaria-England Euro 2012 qualifier in Sofia. England recorded an easy 3:0 win.

"Monkey" chants were heard during the game, supposedly targeting English players Chris Smalling, Ashley Cole, Ashley Young and Theo Walcott. as well as Brazlian-born Bulgarian international Marcos Marquinhos.

"There were no racial chants during the game and the match delegate said the same and there's nothing like this in his report," Borislav Mihaylov told reporters, as cited by The Guardian.

"Yes, we received a letter from UEFA yesterday but we'll probably ask for postponement of the case because we want to have more time to prepare a more detailed and clear answer," the former Bulgarian international goalkeeper added.

The case against Bulgaria is scheduled to be heard by the UEFA control and disciplinary body on 13 October.
