England's national football team will still face a challenge in Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier in Sofia, even though Bulgaria's chances of victory are not great, according to Bulgarian winger Martin Petrov.
"Okay, we know we might not have a great chance of beating England, but this is football. We must play like one team and if we can do that, I think we stand a chance to take something," Petrov, who plays for the English Premiership club Bolton Wanderers, told The Bolton News on Friday.
Bulgaria and England are pitted against one another Friday night in Sofia in the scramble for the first two spots in Euro 2012 qualifying group G, even though Bulgaria have remained with only theoretical chances of grabbing the second spot. To preserve their chances, they need a draw or a win against England.
"The stadium will be full and it will be a big atmosphere. We are very different teams. England players all play in the Premier League, probably the best league in the world. But I think it will be difficult because we are at home and the fans will be there for us. I think it will be a great game but I hope that Bulgaria win," Petrov said.
He added that England had too many great players, making it harder to pick them for the national squad.
"In my country we do not really have that problem. It is quite easy to pick the squad."
