ELECTRICITY EXPORTS TO YUGOSLAVIA TO BE RESUMED

Bulgaria may step up its electricity exports to neighbouring countries to 6 billion kW/h this year, said the CEO of the National Electric Company Danail Tafrov for Reuters. Last year Bulgaria
exported 5.6 billion kW/h, while in 1999 the export stood at 3.6 billion KW/h. The electricity supplies to Yugoslavia will be resumed. For the first time last week NEC exported electricity to Albania under a contract that will be completed on September 15. Turkey is the major importer of Bulgarian electricity with 36 million kW/h per month. Electricity is exported also for Greece and Macedonia. A 400 km power-line conduit to Turkey, expected to raise the transmission capacity. It Bulgarian sector, estimated at USD 35 million, will be 67 km long. Another 400 km power line is to be built to Macedonia, worth USD 50 million. This year the monthly domestic consumption is expected to remain on last year`s level of 36 million kW/h.
