An illegal drag race is one of the leads the Sofia police are probing in connection with a fatal accident that occurred in the capital overnight.
Two people, standing on a sidewalk, died after flying cars swept them and killed them.
The incident happened a little bit after 1 am when an Audi with Sofia registration, driven by a 23-year-old man, travelling on Bulgaria Boulevard, hit sidewise a BMW, also with Sofia license plates, driven by a 21-year-old man.
The impact sent the automobiles on the sidewalk where a man, 39, and a woman, 34, have been standing near a public transportation bus stop. The two died in the hospital shortly after the incident.
The Director of the Sofia Directorate of the Interior Ministry, SDVR, Commissar Valeri Yordanov, is quoted saying the police have suspicions of a drag race and announced pre-trial proceedings have been started.
Another man died overnight in Sofia on the Botevgradsko Shosse Boulevard after he lost control of his car and hit the entrance of an underpass.
