Eight Bulgarian regions are under code orange Wednesday, the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) reminds.
Code orange means intense weather situations with potential damage, injuries and casualties and is declared for temperatures between 38 and 41 degrees in cases of dangerous heat.
The regions under code orange are: Vratsa, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Stara Zagora, Lovech, and Ruse. The mercury there is expected to hit the 40 degrees Celsius mark. For the regions of Vratsa, Pleven and Lovech, thunderstorms, hail and rain are also in the forecast.
The remaining 20 regions are under code yellow, which also means potentially dangerous weather. The temperature there is expected to reach 36 degrees.
People are reminded to stay inside when possible, wear light and light-colored clothes, hats and sunglasses, apply sunblock, drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol and fatty food.
The Main Labor Inspectorate warns employers to avoid both fines and incidents by taking precautions about work schedules and about safety and healthy work conditions such as cooling the facilities and providing fresh air.
