Family and friends of Yana Krasteva are holding a silent vigil for her at Sofia's Central Park Borisova Gradina Monday evening.
The vigil for the murdered young woman, which begins at 7:30 pm, is organized by the Facebook group "Let's Protect Our Children from Yana's Killers." The creators of the group have prepared a petition to send a letter to the National Council of Journalism Ethics over "the lies and the ugly actions of most Bulgarian media."
The body of 28-year-old Bulgarian Yana Krasteva was discovered on July 10 in the park. Forensic experts have come to the conclusion that the young woman was beaten and strangled.
Several media reported that the woman was a "hobo" and an "alcoholic," which was denied by her friends and acquaintances on Facebook. It turned out that Krasteva worked in a mall and had applied for college.
People from the Facebook group also intend to write to the President and the State institutions, demanding that "Ministers come out, face the public and talk about similar cases instead of election campaign good news."
The Mayor further asked to double the police patrols in the park.
