The initiative committee for the presidential elections should not have as members people associated with the former and current security services, according to presidential candidate, Meglena Kuneva.

In an interview for the TV channel bTV, Kuneva, who is Bulgaria's first and former EU Commissioner, and former member of the party of ex King and Prime Minister, Simeon Saxe-Coburg – National Movement for Stability and Prosperity (NMSP), declared she only wanted civil support.

"I fail to understand the position of political parties. I want to protect people, who have not been shrewd enough to join a modern party," she said.

When asked to confirm rumors she gets payments from the French BNP Paribas Bank, the ex EU Commissioner stated she would not be hesitant in making public her revenues from the bank, if the latter would allow it, and declared that if she was to be elected President, she would quit immediately her job there.

"My income is transparent. I have always been an employee. If the other presidential candidates declare publically their income, I would do it as well," Kuneva vowed.

The candidate further pointed out the Presidential Office has great potential, a strong voice that must be used to organize large public debates on important issues, adding she would make presidential quota appointments transparent, unlike the current ones.

Kuneva also touched on the subject of events in Greece, saying that they are a great threat for the EU economy, reminding the crisis started with people withdrawing their savings from banks. She pointed out that as Commissioner on Consumer Protection she contributed to the EU directive of guaranteeing individual savings up to EUR 100 000.

Regarding Bulgaria, the presidential candidate stated she was alarmed about the state of local economy, which is not aligned with European expectations, but stressed she had never been partisan to accusations such as "why didn't you do it when you were in office prior to us?"
