Georgi Kadiev, who was named as the leftist Bulgarian Socialist Party's most probable candidate for Mayor of the capital Sofia, may end up as its presidential runner instead.
This was hinted by charismatic actor and former Culture Minister during the BSP-headed three-way government (2005-2009), Stefan Danailov.
Danailov has endorsed Kadiev while speaking before Sofia's BSP youth organization, the K2 radio reports. The actor himself has been mentioned as a potential BSP presidential candidate, but has stated on several occasions he does not intend to run.
"If I decide to run for President, I have to make BSP supporters and people from outside the party like me," Kadiev commented on Danailov's speech Tuesday, pointing out he was flattered by the endorsement.
According to a poll published last Friday, Kadiev, the potential Sofia Mayor nomination from the oppositional BSP, would receive about 14% of the vote in the fall. The leftists are still to announce their candidate for the presidential vote, which is also scheduled for the fall.
