Stability Reigns: Sofia Real Estate Market Thrives Despite Uncertain Times
The real estate sector in Sofia has shown resilience in the face of ongoing pandemic challenges, maintaining stability across all segments in the first quarter of the year
Jonathan Weiner, one of the most distinguished popular-science American writers, will pay a visit to Bulgaria's capital Sofia June 9-11 to present his new book "Long for this World: The Strange Science of Immortality".
The official presentation of the book will take place on June 10 at the Helikon bookstore on Patriarh Evtimii Blvdr.
Weiner's newest book is a fast-paced and astonishing scientific adventure story and deals with the ancient question of eternal youth.
"This is one of the greatest mysteries in science now. Why are we mortal? Couldn't evolution have designed us to be with bodies that maintained themselves for a thousand years, ten thousand years, a million years? Why not?," asks Weiner.
The American scientific writer claims that people gain years the longer they live.
"Every day we live takes us closer to a time when our life expectancy will be longer," he says.
In "Long for This World", readers are taken on a whirlwind intellectual quest to find out whether the secret for eternal youth has been found.
From Berkeley to the Bronx, from Cambridge University to Dante's tomb in Ravenna, Weiner meets the leading intellectuals in the field and delves into the mind-blowing science behind the latest research.
He traces the centuries-old, fascinating history of the quest for longevity in art, science, and literature, from Gilgamesh to Shakespeare, Doctor Faustus to "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button."
Jonathan Weiner's books have won the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and many other honors.
Currently he teaches science writing at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism, where he is a professor. He lives in New York with his wife, Deborah Heiligman, a children's book author.
