Polly Genova, the Bulgarian Eurovision contestant in 2011, finished 12th out of 19 contestants in her semifinal, just 6 points behind Moldova, the last nation which qualified for last Saturday's final.
Bulgaria won 48 points Thursday, while Moldova had 54 and Belgium – 53, the full results have shown.
After Genova's semifinal performance, commenters from across Europe - from Scandinavia to Greece - have stated they very much liked her song, "In Defiance", and were dismayed at the fact it did not receive enough votes.
Critics and fellow performers in Bulgaria on their part have also commended Genova for her performance, saying that the magnificent way she represented her country is far more important than a formal win.
Azerbaijan's Eli/Nikki duo won the final of the 2011 European song contest ontext in Germany's Dusseldorf late Saturday night.
