$1 BLN OF FOREIGN INVESTMENTS IN 2000

`Over $1 billion of foreign investments have been attracted to Bulgaria in 2000`, Plamen Kostov from the Foreign Investment Agency /FIA/ announced. Most of the investments in the past couple of years went to big cities: Sofia, Varna, Burgas and Plovdiv. `The Vidin region has big potential for business and tourism and more foreign investments should be directed to it`, FIA`s representative believes. Vidin`s closeness to Europe through the Danube and the availability of cheap workforce due to the high unemployment in the region are essential factors for directing foreign investment to the region.
