The number of overnight stays of Bulgarians in hotels and mountain cabins is down by 0.2% or 2 300 during the last quarter of 2010, compared to the last quarter of 2009.

The data was released Monday by the National Statistics Institute, NSI.

The number of stays of foreigners is, however, up by 22% or 5 100 during the same period. Greeks have the largest share with 21% of all foreign visitors' hotel accommodations. Almost all of the foreign visitors (over 99%) have chosen to stay in hotels.

The number of overnight hotel stays of Russian citizens is up by 136%, of Americans – 119%, of Canadians – 97%, Macedonians – 65%, Turks – 44%, followed by Luxemburg – 42%, Hungary – 38% and Greece – 34%.

The number of hotel stays of travelers from Lithuania, Poland, Iceland, Latvia, Ireland, Estonia, France, China, Finland, Spain, Italy and the UK is down.

Revenues from hotel accommodations during the fourth quarter of 2010 are up by 4.2% compared to the same period of 2009 and reach BGN 73 M.

During the last quarter of 2010 there have been 2 117 accommodation facilities in Bulgaria with more than 10 bedshotels, motels, camping sites, cabins etc. – which is 3% more than at the end of 2009.

The number of rooms was 70 000 with 152 000 beds – respectively 2% and 4% more compared to the last quarter of 2009.
