EU Chief Negotiator with Bulgaria Michael Leigh told Parliament Chairman Gerdzhikov on Monday that he highly appreciates the readiness of the new political force in Bulgaria to seriously undertake continuity in the policy towards EU membership. Leigh said it was extremely important to him that his visit came shortly after the new government took office and that Brussels also sets great store by the continuity in the country`s foreign policy. Gerdzhikov and Leigh talked about the main problems facing Bulgaria during its progress to EU membership and the main steps that must be taken in this direction. Gerdzhikov briefed Leigh on the law-making priorities in this direction. `The EU is based on the rule of law and democracy and attaches huge importance to the process of law-making. There is a vast programme to which we will stick to achieve the success desired by the negotiating parties`, Leigh announced.
