Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov will attend the inauguration of Brazil's new President Dilma Rousseff, who is of Bulgarian origin.

Borisov and Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov will be in Brazil on New Year's Day, January 1, 2011, when Dilma Rousseff will formally take over from outgoing Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

"This is a great honor for Bulgaria," Borisov himself stated revealing that he and Mladenov will go to Brazil with a commercial flight. The two will set off for Brasilia on December 28, 2010.

Rousseff's presidential inauguration will start at 2:30 pm local time on January 1 in the plenary hall of the Chamber of Deputies of the Brazilian National Congress, where Dilma, the daughter of Bulgarian immigrant Petar Rusev, will be sworn into office.

In addition to Borisov, the only other European state leader to be present at her inauguration will be the Spanish Prince Felipe and the Prime Minister of Portugal. The Prime Ministers of South Korea, Algeria, and the Emir of Qatar as well as the presidents of Bolivia, Chile, Columbia, Guatemala, Guiana, Peru, El Salvador, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Brazil's incumbent President Lula is leaving the Brazilian Presidency after serving two terms, and with an approval rating of the record 87%.

Over the fall of 2010, Rousseff's rise to prominence in Brazil and her election to the presidency have led to a "Dilma fever" in Bulgaria causing many Bulgarians and the Bulgarian media to focus their attention on Brazil and Latin America.

Many in Bulgaria hope that Dilma's Bulgarian origin will help boost the economic and other ties between Bulgaria and Brazil.

Dilma Rousseff is expected to visit Bulgaria shortly after she is formally sworn into office if one is to judge by her previous declarations that she would love to finally visit the country of her father and to meet with her relatives.
