Bulgaria: Bulgaria to Enjoy Spring-Like Christmas

Unusually high temperatures will accompany the winter holidays in Bulgaria, the country's Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology has stated.

The unexpected spring-like weather conditions will be due to a warm wind heading to the Balkan peninsula from southeast. Temperatures in the regions near the Black Sea will reach 17 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and Thursday, the meteorologists predict. It will be colder than 10 degrees in just a couple of regions in Northern Bulgaria.

No snowy Christmas Eve is expected to be enjoyed in the Balkan country this year, with temperatures reaching 14 degrees on Friday. It is going to be unusually mild on Saturday, too.

Meanwhile, the ongoing heavy winter has caused havoc on European roads with hundreds of drivers forced to spend the night in their cars in Northern and Western England, Northern Italy, and Northern in Western France.

The icy roads triggered a large number of traffic accidents. The heavy snow fall paralyzed a number of other airports all across Europe with thousands stranded right in the start of the winter holiday travel season.

In the beginning of December, record-high temperatures were registered once again in Bulgaria, while the extremely cold weather was raging in the rest of Europe, taking dozens of victims in Poland and several other countries.

However, Bulgaria felt the severe European winter, too, with heavy snow and strong winds causing the closing of the Sofia International Airport and the port in the Black Sea city of Varna last Friday. A new cold wave will arrive in the country on Sunday, according to meteorologists.
