French political scientist and educator, Nad?ge Ragaru, has published a book on the Bulgarian transition period after the communist regime.

Ragarou has been studying the political process in Bulgaria for 20 years. She presented her book "Les temporalit?s feuillet?es du pr?sent. La Bulgarie vingt ans apr?s 1989" on Monday night in the French Institute in Sofia.

The author is a researcher and political sciences professor in CERI (Center for International Studies and research) in Paris.

In her book, she describes her arrival to Bulgaria as an accident. She was studying politics and Russian, out of interest in the changes in the USSR. However, she later choses Bulgaria because she has fallen in love at first sight, she says.

"When I was communicating with people, they were extremely vital, warm and open. They had a desire to know, to accept ideas from everywhere and to search. This was an incredible happiness to me because prior to that, I was living in a community of people who thought they knew everything," Ragaru said.

She witnessed all the political and social events in Bulgaria during the 1990s, right after the collapse of the communist regime in 1989.

The writer says that it is hard to define the most successful and the worst politicians in the country, but, in her words, there are political figures that have defined Bulgaria's future as a EU and NATO member state and not as a Russia neighboring country.

Ragaru has explained that France views Bulgaria as a country that cannot manage with the former communist regime or the changes. In her words, this view could be explained with the fact that all Bulgarian politicians have been disappointing.

"Bulgaria was a European country before and now it is a EU member state, and institutionally speaking, it is completely integrated in the EU structures," Ragaru said.
