Bulgaria Braces for First String of Cold Winter Days

Bulgaria faces its first cold week in the new winter season, after temperatures dropped severely Thursday evening.

The weather will remain cold Sunday through Friday, with lows ranging between -8 and -3 degrees Centigrade, and highs between 0 and 5 degrees.

The weather will nevertheless remain dry, and there will be little snow in the first days, with more precipitation expected Wednesday.

Temperatures will be very low on higher elevations, with a high of 0 C at 1200 m and -7 C at 2000 m. There is the danger of frostbite in the mountains.

No high winds are expected for the period, announced the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
