At Christmas, Bulgaria will be covered in snow, but the weather will be warmer by New Year’s Eve, according to a weather forecast by TV-MET.

There will be a snow cover of 7-8 cm as early as this weekend. The reason is the cold front, which was expected to cover the country late Thursday.

The cold front comes from Western Europe and after passing through Bulgaria, will head to Russia. It will cause a serious drop of temperatures.

Some cities, which registered high-temperature records on Thursday, will suffer up to 20 degrees decrease of the temperatures on Friday.

According to the TV-MET forecast, precipitations are expected to begin in Western Bulgaria and move to Eastern Bulgaria by the end of the day. Maximum temperatures will be about 0 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be about -5 to 0 degrees.

Northwestern Bulgaria is expected to be slippery with ice due to the rainfalls, which will later turn to snow. At the same time, temperatures will decrease fast, the meteorologist Daniel Penev said.

Code Yellow warning has already been raised in the whole country, while Code Orange, which signifies “dangerous weather,” has been raised in the regions of the cities Targovishte, Shumen, Razgrad, Dobrich and Silistra.

During the weekend, the weather will remain dynamic, mostly cloudy with weak snowfalls in Western Bulgaria. Because of the cold front, the temperatures in Northwestern Bulgaria will feel lower, like minus 15-18 degrees.

A Mediterranean cyclone will reach Bulgaria next week and will bring snowfalls in the whole country. The snow cover will reach 20-30 cm, even in South Bulgaria.

Between December 15-17, snow will stop, but the temperatures will continue to be low. They will raise a little around December 18-20, but will again decrease after that to minus 5-10 degrees on December 19-20.

A new cyclone will bring snow again on December 20-22 and will ensure the snow cover for Christmas. However, temperatures will raise a little right before New Year’s Eve.
