The farmers in Dobrudja asked for the state`s assistance because of the disastrous situation of the harvest. The average crops in Dobrudja equal to 23.5 kg per hectare, which is catastrophically low. The Farmers Union raised the purchase price of wheat and nailed it at $110 per ton. The same situation is with maize and the sun seed. `The drought destroyed 80% of the crop`, 15 of the biggest tenant farmers said. They estimate the losses at some BGN 4-5 per hectare. High deficit of sun seed oil is expected. The raw material will be of a bad quality and scanty, officials from the Dobrudja Institute of Agriculture announced. The harvest will be below 300,000 t, which is almost 100,000 t less as compared with the previous year.
