Kosovo's separation from Serbia has designed the final state borders in the Balkans, according to Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Tirana is against the unification of Albania and Kosovo into a "Greater Albania", Berisha told the Swiss newspaper "Tagesanzeiger" in an interview.
"The majority of the Albanians in the region are in favor of integration with the EU. We will be united in the EU, that is why no changes of borders are necessary," the Albanian Prime Minister declared.
He did confirm that earlier he used to believed in the idea of uniting all Albanians on the Balkans in one state but he has now rejected that, thinking instead that good-neighborly relations are the key for making borders obsolete and allowing people to move freely.
Berisha further stated that the government of the Republic of Macedonia needs to treat the Albanians as full-fledged citizens of the country.
He revealed that Serbian President Boris Tadic will be visiting Tirana shortly, which will be a sign for the improvement of the relations between the two states.
Berisha's statements that the government in Tirana does not want to aspire for forming a Greater Albania come in contrast with a recent survey, which found that the majority of the ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, Albania and Macedonia favor the creation of a single Albanian state.
