At least 1,344 people have died from cholera in Haiti, forcing aid agencies to step up their work in the country, the BBC informed.
Aid efforts have been disrupted by protesters who blame UN peacekeepers for spreading the disease.
According to the Haitians, UN peacekeepers from Nepal, where cholera in endemic, have brought the disease to their country. Last week, protesters set up barricades and threw rocks at UN vehicles.
Even though the aid groups have stated that the protests were preventing them from carrying out relief work to the areas with the highest fatality rate in the country, supplies were successfully sent to the area.
In the capital Port-au-Prince, one of the main challenges is to prevent cholera from spreading in the tent camps that are sheltering more than one million people who have been left homeless by the devastating earthquake in January.
There is still a concern that the peak of the disease has not been reached yet.
