Popular Bulgarian actor Andrey Batashov is expected to be taken out of the artificial coma he has been in for two days, the Bulgarian daily “24 Chasa” (24 Hours) informed.
According to the report, two medical teams discussed on Thursday the options for urgent liver transplantation in Sofia. However, the first analyses reported that not the liver was the reason for the serious condition of the actor, but the lungs.
Multiple abscesses have been discovered and according to doctors, the cause of the disease was probably sepsis. Batashov will undergo a biopsy, which would show the exact diagnosis in two days.
According to the report, the actor’s condition on Thursday was slightly improved. His lungs worked better and he was able to breathe on his own and not through a machine for a longer period of time.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Batashov has been hospitalized since Saturday. Hours later, it was announced that he was in a coma.
Various information in Bulgarian media stated different versions for the reason of his hospitalization – from pneumonia to insult.
Teodora Batashova, the actor's mother, made an official statement on Wednesday, thanking the hospital team for doing the best they could for her only son and asking journalist for tolerance.
His mother is Batashov's only relative. He was married for a year to his wife, Boryana. The two separated at the end of last year. A few months ago, Batashov filed for divorce.
"Boryana is his ex wife, who will have her five minutes of fame at this difficult moment for Andrey," a friend of the actor said, as cited by 24 Chasa, commenting on a TV interview with Boryana.
Besides actor, Batashov is also teaching in the Bulgarian National Academy for Theater and Film Arts. He is most popular for his one-person show "Sex, Drugs and Rock'n'Roll," which he staged more than 500 times.
The actor was also an MP from the centrist National Movement for Stability and Prosperity (NDSV) in the previous government.
